How It Works
We switch the wavelength by colour and depth
Ink responds to a different wavelength depending on its colour. Picosecond pulses break the pigment finely so it is led toward fading. The number of sessions needed changes with colour, depth and density, and can vary from person to person.

The procedure
Assessing tattoo colour, size and depth
We check the type of ink, the number of colours and the area, and set out the expected number of sessions and the cost.
Topical anaesthetic
Anaesthetic cream is applied 30–40 minutes before, designed to lower the burden of pain.
Pico laser treatment
The wavelength is chosen to match the colour, breaking the ink pigment on a picosecond scale.
Calming and dressing
The treated area is calmed and a dressing is kept on for 2–3 days.
Crusting and follow-up
The crust comes away naturally over 7–10 days. The next session follows after 6–12 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
Q.How many sessions until it is fully cleared?
Depending on the size, colours and ink depth, 5–15 or more sessions can be needed. The more colours there are, and the more amateur the tattoo, the more uneven the ink depth and the more the number varies. We set out an accurate estimate after the assessment.
Q.Can multi-colour tattoos be removed?
Yes. Enlighten Ruby Pico carries three wavelengths — 532nm, 670nm Ruby and 1064nm — so multi-colour tattoos are removed by switching wavelength for each colour. Greens and teals in particular are broken down effectively with the Ruby wavelength.
Q.Can it be removed without a scar?
A picosecond laser causes less skin damage than a nanosecond one, which lowers the possibility of a scar. That said, it differs with the state of the skin, the interval between sessions, UV exposure and aftercare.
Q.Can semi-permanent eyebrows and eyeliner be removed?
Yes. Semi-permanent make-up is applied more shallowly than an ordinary tattoo, so it clears relatively quickly. However, a colour oxidation reaction can occur, so we recommend a patch test before the first session.
Q.Can I have it if my skin is darker?
The darker the skin, the more the laser can respond to the skin's own melanin, so care is needed. The doctor adjusts the wavelength and output to proceed safely.
