Post-Surgery Care Guide: The Golden 6 Weeks
6 min read·Published 2026-04-02·NB Medical Team
Key Takeaways
- ◎The first 72 hours are peak swelling and bruising — adequate rest during this window affects long-term results
- ◎Compression garments must be worn for a minimum of 4 weeks — they directly contribute to skin contraction and preventing fat redistribution
- ◎Final results gradually emerge after 6 weeks — impatience can lead to unrealistic expectations
Week 1 — Acute Phase
The first 24–72 hours see peak swelling and bruising. Rest as much as possible and take all prescribed analgesics and anti-inflammatories without exception.
A semi-reclined position helps reduce abdominal and waist swelling. Avoid excessive movement, but light walking is encouraged to prevent deep-vein thrombosis.
Weeks 2–3 — Compression Phase
Swelling gradually subsides during this period. Compression garments should be worn for 20+ hours per day — removed only for bathing and exercise.
Light walking and low-intensity cardio are permitted from this point. High-intensity exercise, saunas and alcohol remain prohibited.
A compression garment is not just for reducing swelling — it is a tool for setting your new body shape.
Weeks 4–6 — Stabilisation Phase
Fibrosis of the treated area may develop during this period. Firmness or lumpy texture is a normal part of recovery and can be alleviated with massage or RF therapy.
Results begin to stabilise from week 6 onward. Depending on the individual, the final outcome may take 3–6 months to fully manifest.
Diet and Hydration
Avoid excessive sodium and maintain adequate hydration during recovery. Adequate protein intake supports skin recovery.
Extreme low-calorie dieting is not recommended as it can lead to muscle loss and reduced immunity. Balanced nutrition and consistent hydration are the guiding principles.
