Why This Happens
Why does this happen?
Abdominal fat divides into subcutaneous and visceral fat. Liposuction can address subcutaneous fat, while visceral fat responds only to diet and exercise. Telling the causes apart comes first. Whether the abdomen protrudes because of subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, or skin laxity is decided by reading the clinical examination and the ultrasound findings together.
Body Structure
The abdomen is built in layers
The abdomen runs skin → subcutaneous fat → abdominal muscle → visceral fat. Liposuction addresses the subcutaneous fat layer. The thickness and boundary of the fat layer are checked with ultrasound, and skin laxity is assessed in the examination. The extent of suction and the abdomen-to-flank connection are planned from those results.
NB Solution
Ultrasound analysis → cause identified → tailored plan
Ultrasound checks the thickness and boundary of the fat layer, separating subcutaneous fat from the structures beneath it
Skin laxity is assessed in the examination before the extent of suction is planned
The abdomen and flank are designed as one connected line
